One American Uses a Clerics’ Words to Say Vote Democratic
My Jesuitical training in logic tells me that in the cleric’s mind, veiled women are still meat–only shrink-wrapped. Either way, it is a less than an inviting scenario. Could it be that he is angling for guest appearances on the cooking channel?
Anyone who had attended parochial school in the 1950s has stories about nuns’ concepts of modesty. Obviously, this is not a n Islamic monopoly. Nevertheless, I was taken with the cleric’s statement that uncovered meat is eaten by cats. This unsubtle reference harks to the bigotry against cats through the ages. (Who can forget the tom in the opening credits to WALK ON THE WILD SIDE?)
Since I’ve always been one to allow wide berth in the matter of free speech, I am against his forced resignation. If people do not want to hear this stuff, don’t go to his mosque or buy his comedy albums.
We have had our own tempest with the moronic campaign ads in Tennessee and Tough Guy Limbaugh’s attack on the Missouri stem cell ads. In New Jersey, the Republican Kean has an ad which is clearly exploitive of Italian-American stereotypes. I say ‘Let ‘em run!’ If our electorate could possibly be influenced by such blatantly medacious advertising, we deserve more of the same leadership which has given us a hare-brained war in Iraq, record deficits, a divided nation, unrestrained corporate greed, high gas prices, under-employment, tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%, disrespect from the civilized world, a disdain of science an erosion of the Constitution.
Electing someone based on belief in a racist campaign ad is the voter’s fault, but I don’t believe Americans deserve what we’ve witnessed over the past 6 years. Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004 demonstrate that our real votes are not counted and frankly, I fear for the Nation’s future if the likes of Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld, Cheney et al. remain unchecked by a bloated and irresponsible Republican congress.
Muslim cleric attacks US and refuses to resign

Australia’s most senior Islamic cleric has defiantly refused to resign over remarks comparing unveiled women to uncovered meat, saying that he would only step down when the White House was “cleaned” out.
Sheikh Taj Din al-Hilali, who caused outrage by suggesting that women who chose not to cover themselves invited rape, was instead suspended from preaching for two to three months by the board of Sydney’s Lakemba Mosque Association.”
