She Broke the G.O.P. and Now She Owns It

I have been saying that the party is hers for the taking . . . I think I was wrong. It’s more likely she’ll be given it on a plastic platter. But, it would be fun to watch Steele and the professional Republicans turned out in a putsch. The prospect of editorial cartoons of Palin kicking their butts out the door only adds to enjoyment.

I wonder what Jeb Bush is up to? I wonder how much his Dad’s ‘friends’ will kick in to give him a war chest. How long do you think he’ll wait to announce his ‘white knight’ candidacy?

Bobby Jindahl? He’s looking like the guy in the Charles Atlas’ ads who always got sand kicked in his face.

Huckabee? His agent should look to make him a spokes model for some hot diet product when Fox has to find a more Palin-friendly conservative.

Pawlenty? Hard to say, but he would be a good veep for Jeb.

I wonder if John Huntsman would have a shot . . . as Obama’s man in China, it’s likely the base would eviscerate him.
Haley Barbour? Once he gets out of office, he’ll have so many movie offers to play southern sheriff’s and senators and sleazy real estate developers, he can’t afford to be president. I can see him doing wonderful ads for Bob Evans.

Palin is the perfect candidate . . . absolutely Teflon as far as her base is concerned. She can divorce the First Dude, convert to Catholicism, be publicly cynical about making millions from s-ty books and millions more from paid lectures and even be romantically linked to Rudolph Giuliani and she still won’t lose a vote or a dime in contributions. And best of all, she has none of the restraints that even a rudimentary understanding of history might give her. She’ll rouse the rabble real good . . .

I’m wondering if she can be done in by over-exposure. Perhaps people will tire of her . . . but anger is a potent motivator and the people she appeals to are going to stay mad for a long time.

Obama can’t afford too many mistakes.

I hope Andrew Lloyd Webber won’t mind, but . . .

“Don’t cry for me, my Wasilla!
The truth is I’ll never leave you
All through my wild days
My tough resistance

To all elitists
Best keep your distance”
