A Horribly Familiar Cycle

So let me make sure I’ve got this straight: Top Bush administration officials driven by long-standing resentments used bad intelligence to achieve their foreign policy objectives, which then ended up backfiring spectacularly? And we’re not talking about Iraq?
No, we’re talking about that other […]

What Senator Specter calls “obstructionism” is what most Americans would call a concern for the Constitution.

Specter has really shown his true colors despite his Sunday morning tv tough-guy images. He’s simply another example of the lack of courage on the Republican side.

It is only a shame that this will go before the R.A.T.S. stacked Supreme Court of Roberts, Alito, Thomas & Scalia.

How many more wars will occur before they convince our ‘Yosemite Sam’ president that getting in is easy. It’s that gentle good-night which requires luck.

The fall of the Soviet Union left a vacuum for those who get their jollies and paychecks by spying upon and rousting fellow citizens. The old NKVD-KGB-type operatives in the 73 pound topcoats, 1/2 acre snap brims and the concrete block shoes were the stuff of wonderment for kids in the 1950s and ’60s. While those decades had plenty of dictators-lite, the real action was in the Soviet Union and its satellite nations. It is only fitting that the present administration take up the fallen mantle of Beria and a host of others. Months ago I had displayed a photo-shopped pix of Diamond Dick Cheney as a massive display in Red Square in recognition of his work in commanding the Justice Department, NSA, communications companies and military intelligence to use our rights to privacy for batting practice. Once we lose these rights, they don’t return.

Let’s face it. The Sunday morning interview show tough guy should be out front defending the people against this onslaught of W’s “Seize Them!!” tendencies. Instead, after the cameras are off, Arlen squeaks for cheese. Using an op-ed piece shows that the television act isn’t playing in Peoria.

“Surveillance We Can Live With
By Arlen Specter
Monday, July 24, 2006; A19
President Bush’s electronic surveillance program has been a festering sore on our body politic since it was publicly disclosed last December. Civil libertarians, myself included, have insisted that the program must be subject to judicial review to ensure compliance with the Fourth Amendment.”
