Westmoreland’s statement comes as little surprise. Last year, he led opposition to renewal of the Voting Rights Act, arguing that racism in the South is as irrelevant today as U.S.-British tensions over […]

Had the senator a touch more intelligence, this would not be a story.

Monday, September 18th, 2006

According to RAW STORY, ROLL CALL is reporting that Georgia Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss stated:
‘“We need better intelligence. If we had better intelligence in the Civil War we’d be quoting Jefferson Davis, not Lincoln.”
A spokesperson for Chambliss said the story wasn’t correct and that what the Senator actually said said was, “If Gen. JEB […]

“You trying to tell me Jesus Christ can’t hit a curveball?”–veteran pitcher Eddie Harris in MAJOR LEAGUE. The Atlanta Braves and the rest of what was once baseball had better be careful. In Somalia, radical Muslims shot some people for watching the World Cup. There will be a time when our own religious police decide they no longer want Catholics or Jews to come to the ballpark or they call for a boycott because ushers did not take ‘Jesus as their lord and personal savior.’ These are the same folks who boycotted stores whose staff said ‘Happy Holidays’ instead of “Merry Key-Riced-Mass!” In my own lonely protest, I shall simply await business’ consternation when they find that the cutsey l’il Born Agains have become drunk with that 200 proof power. Though I may sound as if I were raised by wolves in a pagan rite, I must confess to a relatively solid background in the disciplines of religion and philosophy. It is easier for me to believe in the mysteries of the Roman Catholic Church than it is to believe events like Faith Day occur at ballparks. Since baseball is a game of cumulative statistics, I present this interesting map.

Supreme Court Limits Police Searches of Homes
By David Stout
Published: March 22, 2006
WASHINGTON, March 22 — A bitterly split Supreme Court, ruling in a case that arose from a marriage gone bad, today narrowed the circumstances under which the police can enter and search a home without a warrant.
