The Republican House leadership–such as it is–obviously adopted the Bernard Cardinal Law playbook.

The New York Times reports that the Republicans knew in 2005 that Foley was sending e-mails to pages, but allowed him to keep his top position on the Congression caucus on children’s issues.

The Rasmussen Survey proclaims that voters in most states say the political system is a mess.
Raw Story had two articles about grotesque voting problems in Florida and California. These problems will undoubtedly reverberate in other states as Florida’s 2000 election set the standard for Ohio’s 2004 debacle.

I’ll bet you didn’t know that Florida has a candidate who believes that the “establishment clause” is basically a bunch of hooey.

I shall apologize for Governor Dean. Representative Harris may fancy form-fitting clothes, but Joe Stalin was simply a wild man who was as wacked in his seventies as he had been in his teens.

‘Harris pads role, impact on housing, reports say
By Larry Lipman
Palm Beach Post Washington Bureau
Thursday, July 13, 2006
WASHINGTON — On the campaign trail and in her literature, U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris boasts that, as a freshman member of Congress, she passed the American Dream Downpayment Act, “enabling 4.5 million low-income workers to own their first home […]

When one considers that her work in 2000 got “You-Know-Who” into the White House, she is getting off easy. Still, her clothing must have had an effect. Sooner or later, tight sweaters and slacks will cut blood flow to the brain. It is odd that the second most important person in electing W was Ralph Nader whose clothes have always seemed to hover over his skin. I shall find his rationale.

The Vatican states gay marriage threatens the traditional family as never before. Does that include the traditional family of Mommy, Daddy, baby Christine, little Timmy and his special ‘uncle’–Father ‘Let’s Do It In the Rectory?’ I imagine those memories would prevent a body from having an easy time with tradition. As for the House majority leader’s belief, Mr. Boehner is a perfect spokesman. His many, lobbyist-greased junkets reflect the grand tradition of unrestrained power. Passing out cigarette money on the floor was simply this latterday John the Baptist’s cry in the wilderness to return families to the tradition of having Dad cough his lungs into oblivion while Mom and the youngsters took up nicotine to soothe their grief. Finally, what better person than Katherine Harris to stand with tradition–that same tradition which prevented African-Americans from voting in Florida during Harris’ career-defining moment in 2000. She must have spent a lot of time searching for the demure jacket worn for the ceremony. She may be the only female house member who dry cleans her clothes with Botox for that second skin comfort.

By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer 27 minutes ago
The Senate on Wednesday rejected a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, but supporters said new votes for the measure represent progress that gives conservative Republicans reason to vote on Election Day.

Among his many accomplishments, Genghis Khan invented the off-shore tax shelter, straight-line depreciation for pillaged goods and the concept of ’swords or butter.’ While his grandson Kublai Khan is generally credited with writing off vacation yurts as a business expense, it was actually Genghis who first used the deduction which was disallowed.

The Fox News Effect
By Richard Morin
Thursday, May 4, 2006; A02

We report. You decide. Does President Bush owe his controversial win in 2000 to Fox cable television news?
Yes, suggest data collected by two economists who found that the growth of the Fox cable news network in the late 1990s may have significantly boosted the Republican Party’s […]
