An Appreciation.

Of the most familiar faces in W’s regime, I must confess to a grudging admiration for Donald Rumsfeld. Certainly this feeling is not based on his logistical, tactical and strategic war planning. Those issues may lead only to opprobrium.

Rather, it is Secretary Rumsfeld’s refusal to become part of the fetid morality hothouse which this administration has become. Bush, Gonzalez, Rove, Ashcroft, Rice and even Cheney have subscribed to the on-the-sleeve religious buzzwords, which–in view of the administration’s actions over the past six years–hold no meaning, except to remind us of WHEN PHARISEES WALKED THE EARTH. Secretary Rumsfeld may have faults as do the rest of us, but I am thankful he does not lecture us on the way we should live. He has the good grace to keep it to himself–a practice the rest of the big boys and girls in the regime cannot do.

It was not that long ago that mention of the president would allow that he was a moral beacon of sorts. As people opened their eyes, we are loosed from hearing that hollow description. For all I know, Secretary Rumsfeld may be the biggest religious fanatic on board. The point is that we don’t know because he keeps his own counsel in such matters and allows we sinners to muddle through our lives of trial and degradation. Bravo!
