Some Democrats Are Sensing Missed Opportunities

Sensing?
Maybe the term connotes something else for the Democratic Party. What could it mean?

A Wurlitzer jukebox falling from a third story window and landing in the party’s lap?

How about being hit in the face by a Bobby Hull slapshot?

A sulphuric acid shower?

Discovering cotton where there should be brass.

Realizing […]

It certainly explains the crankiness.

More people claim the title–LAWYER TO THE STARS–than the U.S. Government says are second in command to Osama bin-Laden.

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

Because of some news story today
I entered “lawyer to the stars” at Google and received 602 citations. Obviously there are many repeats, but the first twenty revealed about seven attorneys known as “lawyer to the stars.” I became quickly bored so I don’t know if any of the final citations included attorneys who work exclusively […]

February 07, 2006 Soldier pays for armor
For three years, W. and his Gang o’ Bullies have been telling Americans (in so many words) that those who do not support the war don’t support the troops. Most Americans–even Bush supporters–know that is a […]

FAITHFUL ARE CARVING A NICHE IN THE WORKPLACE
By Faye Fiore Los Angeles Times Staff Writer Sun May 15, 7:55 AM ET

“DULLES, Va. — In an auditorium on America Online’s rolling campus, a glorious expanse of the heavens is projected on a big screen. Reggie Evans, a former Redskin running back turned emissary of Christ, has […]

This is a welcome change. Most nature programs only deal with the stealth and violence in animals’ lives, as if Marlon Perkins had joined the S.A.S.

Necessity dictates the use of an off-speed pitch to keep the administration honest.*
I recommend this piece about Retired Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson and his PBS interview.
* Make that “…try to keep the administration honest.”

It’s rather like the Periodic Table of Violence and is worth a long view.

It’s an actual cut-line from a late 1940s’ advertisement.
Godfather II had nothing to do with it.

It’s 1974 again. Each day brings us more curious pronouncements.

Michael Corleone:“My father is no different than any other powerful man — any man who’s responsible for other people, like a senator or president.”

Michael Corleone: “Oh, who’s being naive, Kay?”

I view the triumph of color photographs in newspapers as another proof that progress is not linear. Black & white wirephotos carried an historical importance which color oft-times diminishes. Obviously, there are exceptions to the rule. On Thursday, a front page photograph in the New York Times reminded me of the works of Eugene Delacroix and George Bellows.

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

In a photograph of an angry group of West Bank demonstrators,
Menahem Katahan (Agence-Press France/Getty Images) combined

Delacroix’s acute vision of animal movement

and his romantic view of history

with George Bellows’ early palette

and concern for the struggle of humankind

to create a truly exquisite artwork which synthesized the aforementioned elements at the speed of a shutter.

Would someone please tell the news media that a healthy, adversarial relationship with the government is absolutely required for the strength of Democracy. Anything less–and we are witnessing a lot less-can only lead to a weakening of the Constitution and the abandonment of the citizenry.

Valerie Plame’s duties involved the monitoring of potential problems which may have arisen with Russian nukes. Considering the story below, I would have felt safer had she still been on the job. Not only did her outing smell of treason, but the apparent disarray in the Russian military made the act of revelation a truly foolish move.
